Singer/performer promo DVD

When an up and coming singer needed high quality promotional material, The Motion Factory recorded a promotional DVD. For the recording, a theatre was rented. Finally, we did the graphic design for the DVD. This shows what you can achieve on a budget, with little time but with a talented performer.

In this case, the star was both a singer and dancer, so it was important to show both aspects. An additional challenge was that the vocals were to recorded live. This would clearly show what the talent was capable of.

A theatre was rented, together with a lighting designer, wardrobe, hairdresser and make-up artist. A sound engineer was responsible for recording the live performance and mixing it in the studio afterwards.

Recording and editing

Since we had only one camera available, every song was performed several times so we could record it from different angles. We also recorded a sound feed from the mixing desk to use during for editing.

After the shoot, we edited the video and the music was mixed and mastered at an audio studio. Afterwards, we joined the finished audio and video together again.

Then we provided a design for a logo and DVD menu.

The result

Here are a few snippets of the promo DVD. The first song is an up-beat song with a faster montage. The second song is a slower, acoustic song showing a slightly different style of filming and montage.

Excerpt from "Cola ma mi". The vocals were recorded live.

An acoustic song recorded live.

Tip of the day

Camera viewfinderIf you want to film a live performance from different angles, you can't always use multiple cameras because of budget reasons or because the cameras will bother the audience. You can film close-ups during a rehearsal and then film wide-shots with the audience during the show. If the two recordings are combined and edited well, it'll seem like a multi-camera recording and noone will notice the difference.
